Germany comes in fourth with a score of 9.1. It leads Europe in gym availability with 13,166 facilities and also offers the second-highest number of trails (34,986), making it a top choice for both indoor and outdoor fitness activities.

Italy rounds out the top five, scoring 8.9. The country is home to 279 wellness retreats and 15,818 hiking trails, offering a mix of physical activity and relaxation in scenic surroundings.

Fitness expert Lee Mitchell shared advice for staying active while travelling. He encourages simple, pressure-free ways to move the body.

“Holidays are for switching off, but that doesn’t mean your body has to,” Mitchell said. “Staying active boosts energy, improves sleep, and enhances digestion.”

Mitchell recommends walking as much as possible, using resistance bands for short workouts, and trying quick bodyweight routines. He also highlights the importance of maintaining pelvic floor strength with discreet exercises that support posture and core stability.

“Fitness on holiday isn’t about burning calories,” he added. “It’s about movement that makes you feel good. When your body feels good, your mind follows.”

With these destinations offering top-tier fitness facilities and natural landscapes, travellers no longer have to choose between staying fit and enjoying their holiday.
