A 42-year-old mother from Hertfordshire lost five stone and dropped from a dress size 22 to 14 without surgery or fad diets, after trying a unique form of hypnosis that convinced her mind she had undergone gastric band surgery.
Laura Bell had struggled for years with yo-yo dieting and had even considered gastric band surgery. However, before going through with the operation, she decided to try hypnotherapy after meeting a hypnotherapy teacher by chance. The therapy proved highly effective, helping her reduce her weight from 18.5 stone to 13.5 stone within a year.
Gastric band hypnosis is a technique that uses guided relaxation and visualization to make the patient believe they have had a gastric band fitted. The goal is to help them feel full after eating smaller portions and to change their eating habits. Laura underwent four sessions over one week, costing around £500. Each session included deep relaxation, calming music, and vivid sensory cues like the smell of Dettol to mimic a hospital environment.
During hypnosis, suggestions were planted in Laura’s mind to encourage healthy habits such as eating only until full, drinking more water, and avoiding snacks and alcohol. She described the experience as entering a space between wakefulness and sleep, where her brain accepted these new behaviors as real.
The changes were immediate. After the first session, Laura found herself choosing soup over pizza at lunch and losing interest in snacks like crisps, cake, and chocolate. She also stopped drinking alcohol, recognizing it as empty calories that no longer fit her healthier lifestyle.
Laura credits the hypnosis with transforming her relationship with food and changing her life without the need for surgery or restrictive diets.
