A British woman’s dream of a yoga retreat in Peru turned into a nightmare after she was robbed and left homeless on the streets of Cusco.
Hannah Almond, 32, lost her phone, passport, money, and belongings when attackers reportedly set her things on fire. Since the incident, she has been without any means to contact family or access help.
A family friend described Hannah as a kind and generous person who now struggles to trust others after the assault. They said she has been living under a bridge in Cusco with a homeless man she befriended, as she fears accepting help from the embassy or local authorities.
The British Consul in Peru confirmed Hannah arrived in Cusco as a tourist in early March and did not plan to overstay her visa. However, she now faces an uncertain immigration situation while battling a mental health crisis.
Friends and family have set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for her, which has nearly reached its £6,500 goal. Supporters warn that Hannah’s situation is urgent, as Cusco is known to be a trafficking hotspot and she remains vulnerable and isolated.
Despite police checks, Hannah has not been seen recently, and those close to her are deeply concerned for her safety and wellbeing on the streets of Peru.
