Fans Slam PlusSize Influencer Over WeightLoss Surgery Lie

Remi Bader, the 30-year-old body positivity advocate and internet personality, has revealed the details of her life-changing weight loss surgery, admitting that she underwent a procedure to “cut out 80 percent of \[her] stomach.”

Bader, who gained fame in 2021 for promoting body inclusivity, shared that she had gastric bypass surgery in the fall of 2023. However, her recent revelations have sparked controversy online, with some social media users accusing her of being dishonest and a “fraud.”

In a candid discussion about her weight loss journey, Bader explained that her decision to undergo surgery came after years of struggling with binge eating and unsuccessful attempts with weight loss medication. She had been dealing with gastrointestinal issues that left her feeling stuck in an unhealthy cycle.

Bader chose to have a single anastomosis duodenal-ileal bypass with sleeve gastrectomy (SADI-S), a procedure aimed at helping individuals achieve significant weight loss.

Bader was unprepared for the grueling recovery that followed the surgery. Although she expected a quick recovery, she found herself struggling with extreme side effects. “The recovery was the most brutal thing,” she said, recalling that she had to stay in the hospital for three days instead of just one due to severe complications.

She described a painful process of constant vomiting and an inability to drink water, leading to doubts about whether the surgery was the right choice. “I had a lot of regret,” she admitted in a conversation with Khloé Kardashian. For six weeks, she battled sickness, often feeling bedridden and unable to eat or drink properly.

The physical struggles also took a significant toll on Bader’s mental health. She experienced deep depression, calling the period the “scariest time of my life” and even contemplated death. However, over time, Bader began to focus on her emotional well-being, working on self-acceptance and building a better mind-body connection.

She now includes yoga and Pilates in her daily routine and reports that her binge eating is somewhat better, though she still faces challenges with food-related thoughts.

Despite her recovery, Bader still deals with physical side effects from the surgery. Due to her smaller stomach, she cannot binge eat like she used to. “I can’t physically binge as much because I don’t have the room for it,” she explained. However, she also struggles with a strict eating schedule, as she cannot eat and drink within 30 minutes of each other, which makes social events difficult.

Bader also faced significant hair loss, with large clumps of hair falling out daily for nearly six months, adding to the emotional challenges of her weight loss journey.

After sharing her experience, Bader faced criticism from followers who felt betrayed. Many accused her of “lying” and hiding the truth about her weight loss. In the past, Bader had attributed her body transformation to diet and exercise, which led some fans to feel deceived.

One social media user commented, “She blatantly lied and said it was diet and exercise,” while others called her a “sellout” and “fraud.” Some fans expressed frustration, claiming that Bader had “gaslighted” them by denying her surgery for months before finally admitting it.

However, there were also some supporters who defended her, noting that there is nothing wrong with pursuing weight loss surgery if done for health reasons. One comment read, “What’s immoral is blatantly lying about it to hundreds of thousands of women who first followed Remi because of her body positivity content.”

Although Bader now feels more in control of her health and body, she has made it clear that she never wanted to lose her curvy figure. “I never wanted to be this size,” she said, expressing her desire to still be “curvy” despite the drastic changes.

Her story highlights the complex relationship between body image, health struggles, and the pressures of social media. As Bader continues to navigate her journey, she has become a figure of both admiration and controversy, sparking important conversations about body positivity, weight loss, and the realities of surgery.
