The Goa government has announced that all employees in government departments, semi-government bodies, and state-run corporations must take part in International Yoga Day on June 21, 2025. What was once a voluntary event will now require full attendance, following orders from Chief Minister Pramod Sawant after a state-level planning meeting.
To ensure everyone participates, yoga sessions will begin on June 1 across various offices and institutions. Employees who cannot attend sessions at work must join community yoga programs in places like temples or schools. They must then submit photo proof of their participation to their department heads.
The government has also directed all employees to register on the iGOT Karmayogi portal. This platform, part of the central government’s Mission Karmayogi, offers training and upskilling courses for government workers.
Chief Minister Sawant encouraged employees to complete the ‘Yoga at Workplace’ certification available on the Karmayogi portal. The aim is to make wellness part of daily life, which can improve job performance and mental clarity.
This move is part of Goa’s broader effort to promote holistic governance, recognizing that physical and mental health are key to effective public service. With this mandatory approach, Goa could set an example for other states to adopt wellness practices in government.
