Safefood has announced £1.26 million in funding to support 28 grassroots food and nutrition projects across the island of Ireland. This funding will be distributed over the next four years to community organizations working in low-income areas.
The launch of Safefood’s new Community Food Initiative programme for 2025 to 2028 was attended by Jennifer Carroll MacNeill, T.D., Minister for Health; Mike Nesbitt, MLA, Minister of Health; and Dr. Gary A. Kearney, CEO of Safefood. The programme aims to promote healthier eating habits and improve overall health in disadvantaged communities through practical, local support.
More than one-third of the funded projects are based in Northern Ireland. This reflects Safefood’s ongoing commitment to reducing health inequalities by addressing the unique needs of different communities. The initiative not only encourages a healthy diet but also emphasizes fitness and wellbeing to improve quality of life.
Through this investment, Safefood hopes to create lasting change by helping people make better food choices and adopt lifestyles that support both nutrition and physical fitness.
