Dilip Joshi, best known as Jethalal Champaklal Gada from Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, recently opened up about his remarkable weight loss story. The 57-year-old actor revealed that he lost 16 kilograms in just one and a half months—without going to the gym.
Joshi shared this journey during an interview, explaining that the rapid weight loss happened for a film role in 1992. He was preparing to play a character in the movie Hun Hunshi Hunshilal, which required him to lose weight to fit the part.
At the time, Joshi worked in an office and used running as his main form of exercise. After work, he would change at the swimming club and jog along Marine Drive, from one end to the Oberoi Hotel and back—even in heavy rain. This daily 45-minute run helped him shed 16 kg in less than two months.
Joshi described the experience fondly: “I would run in the rain with the sun setting and the clouds looking beautiful. It was tough but enjoyable.”
Though his TV character Jethalal is known for loving food like phaphda jalebi and undhiyu, Joshi emphasized that his real-life approach to health is different. He keeps a close watch on his weight and does not rely on gym workouts to stay fit. He stressed that finding time for exercise is possible with dedication and that excuses should not stop people from working toward their fitness goals.
Running, Joshi said, is a powerful way to lose weight. He advised staying active, being consistent, and increasing the intensity of runs by choosing tougher routes. According to him, weight loss is a gradual process that requires patience and steady effort.
Dilip Joshi’s character, Jethalal, remains the heart of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. Known for his humor and relatable persona, Jethalal continues to entertain millions of fans across India. Today, on his birthday, fans celebrate not just his acting but also his inspiring commitment to health.
