Angela Brown from Cumbernauld in Lanarkshire has lost 13 stone after struggling with her weight and health for years. Aged 52, Angela once weighed 24 stone but began her weight loss journey using diet and exercise. She managed to lose 6 stone, dropping to 18 stone, but then hit a plateau despite her efforts.
Angela, who is a cancer survivor and also suffers from Type 2 diabetes, started using the weight loss injectable Mounjaro on medical advice. The drug helped her shed another 7 stone, bringing her weight down to 11 stone. She now wears size 12 to 14 clothes and is in remission from diabetes.
However, Angela is left with a large amount of excess skin around her legs, arms, and stomach. This sagging skin affects her confidence and daily life. She shared with Glasgow Times that she feels embarrassed and often needs to buy bigger clothes to fit the skin.
Unfortunately, the surgery to remove excess skin is not available on the NHS, forcing Angela to seek treatment abroad. The estimated cost for three surgeries is £12,000, which she cannot afford alone. She has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money and has collected £5,000 so far. Angela emphasized that she is saving money herself and is only asking for help to cover the remaining cost.
Angela said the death of her father in 2023 was the moment she decided to make serious changes. She also cited her battles with cancer and other health problems linked to an unhealthy lifestyle as motivation.
Thanks to her lifestyle changes and the use of Mounjaro, Angela has made remarkable progress and is now free from Type 2 diabetes. Despite the challenges with excess skin, she remains hopeful and determined to complete her transformation.
