Sacramento County Parks Celebrate Family Health and Fitness Day

by Daisy

Residents of Sacramento County are invited to celebrate Family Health and Fitness Day this Saturday, June 14, with a variety of free community events. The annual celebration, organized by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), aims to promote physical health, mental well-being, and a stronger connection to nature. This year, events will take place from 9 a.m. to noon, with many activities offering free admission and parking.

Family Health and Fitness Day highlights the importance of parks, open spaces, and recreational opportunities in enhancing public health. Whether it’s walking, gardening, rafting, or yoga, the events are designed to encourage physical activity and foster a sense of community. Studies by the NRPA show that 93% of U.S. adults believe that services provided by park and recreation professionals improve their mental health. Just 20 minutes spent outdoors can help reduce stress, and access to nature increases activity levels and emotional well-being for people of all ages.
