Jake Paul Calls Body Transformation for Tyson Fight Brutal

by Daisy

Jake Paul has acknowledged that his heavyweight days might be behind him after he gained excessive weight for his fight against boxing legend Mike Tyson. The YouTuber-turned-boxer, who initially weighed in at 227lbs (16st 2lbs) for the November match, admitted that the weight gain made him feel uncomfortable and affected his performance.

Paul, who had previously fought at 185lbs, intentionally bulked up by indulging in pasta, steak, and potatoes in a bid to increase his weight. However, the extra pounds left him struggling to run, and he said his body was not suited for the heavyweight class. Despite securing a win against Tyson over eight rounds in a controversial bout, Paul admitted, “It was just too much, and my body wasn’t made for it. Even when I got into the ring, I just felt too fat.” He now feels that the cruiserweight division, which has a weight limit of 14st 4lbs, is a better fit for him.

Since the fight, the 28-year-old has focused on trimming down and returning to his ideal weight. His previous fight, a loss to Tommy Fury in 2023, saw Paul weigh in at 183.6lbs, marking his only defeat so far. Despite the challenges, Paul’s fight against Tyson generated significant commercial success, with more than 100 million viewers watching the event on Netflix.

Following that success, Paul entered discussions for a high-profile fight with Mexican champion Canelo Alvarez, scheduled for May 3 in Las Vegas. However, Canelo pulled out of the negotiations to sign a four-bout deal with Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh.

With the Canelo fight off the table, Paul turned his attention to an exhibition match against WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis. However, Davis is now focused on a rematch with Lamont Roach, following their controversial draw in March.

Meanwhile, Paul has set his sights on former middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., whom he will face in a fight set for June 28 on DAZN PPV. Paul has expressed his desire for the “hardest and biggest fights” and remains open to negotiations with multiple fighters, continuing to stay active in the sport. He believes that, in time, his planned matchups with top names like Canelo and Gervonta Davis will come to fruition.
