Real Madrid has made significant strides this summer, from appointing new manager Xabi Alonso to completing key signings, including Dean Huijsen, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Franco Mastantuono. These moves follow a disappointing 2024/25 season in which the team failed to win any major titles. Club president Florentino Pérez is determined to provide Alonso with the resources needed to return the team to its former glory.
In addition to new player signings, Real Madrid is also bolstering its coaching staff. According to a report by Guillermo Rai of The Athletic, the club has hired two new fitness coaches to support Alonso’s efforts. Alongside Ismael Camenforte, who joined as part of Alonso’s team, the club has brought on Javier Arnaiz and Ismael Fernandez in permanent roles.
Arnaiz, the former performance manager of the Mexican national team, will focus on player strength and conditioning. Fernandez, who holds a Ph.D. in Sports Science, will be tasked with data analysis to track player performance.
Both coaches have previously worked with Real Madrid and bring a unique approach to fitness. They will utilize a method called ‘Thermohuman,’ which uses infrared thermography to monitor players’ physical conditions.
This overhaul of the fitness team follows years of injury struggles for the club. Additionally, there have been concerns about the methods of former fitness coach Antonio Pintus, who will now take on a different role within Alonso’s staff.
Real Madrid is also expected to add another fitness trainer to work directly on the field with the team.
