Kinneta Reveals VR Fitness Workouts to Beat Exercise Boredom

by Daisy

Kinneta, a New York-based extended reality (XR) company, is making waves with its innovative XR fitness apps that promise to transform cardio workouts. At the Augmented World Expo (AWE) in Long Beach, California, the company showcased its virtual and augmented reality solutions designed to replace monotonous cardio routines with interactive and engaging workouts.

The apps allow users to exercise alongside top fitness trainers in stunning virtual environments from around the world. Alternatively, users can invite Kinneta’s professional trainers into their homes or gyms as photorealistic holograms for personalized sessions. The app is now available on the Meta Store, thanks to partnerships with leading treadmill and cycling brands, Woodway and WattBike, who are also bringing their machines to AWE 2025.

Jenna Arndt, Kinneta’s cofounder and head of fitness, highlighted one of the company’s standout features: a gamified workout for cyclists. “Users punch and dodge targets with their body and arms to the beat of the music while pedaling,” she explained in an interview with GamesBeat. “Their pedaling performance directly impacts their score. The closer they are to hitting the beat, the higher their score.”

Kinneta is also unveiling gamified workouts for Xreal AR glasses at AWE. In these challenges, users engage in full-body rhythm-based exercises, with their cadence on the WattBike aligning with the music’s beat, granting them power-ups in the game. This experience will be available in both VR and AR, shown on the Meta Quest and Xreal glasses at the conference.

Additionally, Kinneta is debuting scenic, trainer-led moving workouts in VR. One of the highlights is a trainer-guided run through Central Park, made possible through Meta Quest headsets. The run dynamically adjusts the treadmill’s speed and incline to match the virtual terrain, providing a more immersive workout experience. The movement in the virtual world mirrors that on the fitness machine, ensuring a realistic exercise session.

In terms of partnerships, Kinneta is also set to announce an exciting collaboration with TrueForm. Currently, most of Kinneta’s users are engaging with the technology from home, but the company envisions a future where gyms will integrate XR fitness equipment for members. Arndt mentioned that Equinox, a gym chain with hundreds of locations, is considering adopting the technology.

Looking ahead, the company is also awaiting the development of lighter, more affordable headsets with higher resolution, which could further enhance the XR fitness experience.
