A 92-year-old grandmother from China has stunned internet users across the country with her impressive daily fitness routine, which includes 200 push-ups and 100 sit-ups. Her dedication to exercise has sparked admiration, as it highlights the growing trend among elderly citizens in China to maintain rigorous workout schedules.
The nonagenarian, identified only by her surname Li, shared her fitness tips at the Yao Ethnic Minority Medicine Festival in Jianghua Yao Autonomous County, Hunan province, earlier this month. During the event, she openly discussed her health habits, revealing her commitment to physical activity despite her age.
Li, who practices most of her exercises at home, acknowledged that her push-up form may not always be perfect, but she remains consistent with her goal of completing 200 push-ups every day. Due to frequent rainfall in her area, she prefers indoor workouts. When reporters visited her home, Li demonstrated her strength by performing 100 sit-ups on her bed and 200 push-ups on the floor. In addition, she is also skilled at spinning a hula hoop, according to local reports.
Beyond her physical training, Li shared a wellness practice that she believes has greatly improved her health: soaking her feet in hot water every evening. She explained that this routine helped her eliminate leg cramps that once troubled her.
Li credits her exercise routine for enhancing her overall health, claiming that, although her hair turned white many years ago, some of it has recently regained its natural color. “My health has really benefited from exercising,” Li stated. Her vitality has left many online users amazed, with some commenting that they can only manage a few push-ups themselves, even at a younger age.
A former kindergarten teacher who graduated from college in Changsha in 1959, Li enjoys doing exercises typically associated with younger children. Her story is part of a broader movement in China, where an increasing number of seniors are becoming known on social media for their fitness routines.
With nearly 300 million people aged 60 and older in China, older citizens like Li have become social media stars by embracing healthier, active lifestyles. Other elderly individuals, like a Shanghai man in his 70s who practices yoga, push-ups, and skipping, have also gained recognition for defying age expectations. Similarly, a 78-year-old grandmother, who went viral for doing push-ups in a hospital corridor, has inspired many with her determination to stay strong and care for her ill husband.
