Jenna Johnson, a professional dancer on “Dancing With the Stars,” recently shared simple health and fitness tips that help her stay in shape. She discussed her favorite workouts and the importance of mental health in a June 2025 interview with First for Women.
Johnson said she dances weekly, but not every day unless she is working on the show. She called dancing fun and creative, saying it works the whole body but does not feel like exercise. Besides dancing, Pilates is her preferred workout. She enjoys hot Pilates because it strengthens and stretches muscles while making her sweat. Johnson does Pilates several times a week.
She used to run often but found it hard to keep up. Instead, she follows a treadmill workout called “3-12-30,” which means walking at 3 mph, a 12 incline, for 30 minutes. This routine works every muscle, and she keeps herself distracted by reading during the workout. Sometimes, she and her husband take high-intensity interval training (HIIT) classes together because she likes the competition and fun.
Johnson also talked about her approach to snacking. She favors protein bars and crunchy snacks like carrot sticks with ranch, rice cakes with peanut butter, and dates. She believes in eating in moderation, saying that if she wants chocolate at night, she eats it without feeling guilty. Moderation, she says, allows you to enjoy all foods.
She no longer pays attention to her weight on the scale. Growing up as a dancer, she was obsessed with the numbers but decided that how she feels is more important than the digits on the scale.
Johnson emphasized the importance of mental health. Years ago, she started focusing on taking care of herself from the inside instead of just her appearance. This shift improved not only her body but also her confidence and the way she carried herself. She said she wanted to be open to new things and walk tall.
Her mental health journey includes lessons from her parents about happiness and success, therapy for guidance, support from friends, and learning from self-help books and podcasts. Johnson explained that adopting a “glass half full” mindset has made her life feel lighter and easier to handle. She believes that mental health deserves the same care as the body.
