Actor Ishaan Khatter recently revealed that he had to undergo a significant physical transformation for his upcoming film Homebound, losing 8 to 10 kilograms in just two months. Known for his muscular physique in the series Royals, Khatter said that his well-defined build actually became a drawback for his next role.
In an interview with Mashable India, the actor explained that the director of Homebound asked him to shed not only weight but also muscle mass in order to portray a more relatable, everyday character. “When I met the director, he told me, ‘You have to look normal.’ So, it became a disadvantage. I understood why he said that. I lost about 8–10 kilos to play a 21- or 22-year-old boy,” Khatter said.
The transformation, while physically demanding, was made easier by his long-standing dedication to fitness. Khatter noted that his body has been conditioned over many years through consistent effort, including his background in dance and regular exercise. This foundation, he said, helped him adapt quickly to the demands of the new role.
Addressing the broader subject of health and fitness, Khatter emphasized the importance of consistency over intensity. “There’s no shortcut. It’s consistency. I know it’s a boring answer, but it’s the truth,” he said. He encouraged people to stay active in a manageable way, warning against the common cycle of overexertion and burnout that often follows short bursts of motivation, especially around the New Year.
“Just do enough so that you don’t get demotivated by fatigue the next day. Don’t push yourself over the edge,” he advised. Khatter added that movement is essential and natural to human health. “We’re designed to move. Just find your own way of doing it.”
Khatter’s physical transformation and his approach to fitness highlight the challenges actors face in aligning their appearance with different character roles, as well as the discipline required to maintain overall well-being in a demanding industry.
