The Health & Fitness Association (HFA) has appointed Hans Muench, its former Europe director, as ambassador for the upcoming 2025 HFA European Congress, scheduled to take place from October 2 to 4 in Amsterdam. Drawing on over 30 years of experience in the fitness industry, Muench will leverage his extensive network of health club operators and suppliers to boost sponsorship and attendance, especially from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg.
Muench’s involvement with HFA dates back to 1981, when the organization was known as IRSA. He became a member in 1982 and, during his MBA internship, conducted an eight-month study of the European market, visiting 270 clubs. He served as European liaison from 1985 to 1993 and was the first director of international development from 1994 to 1999. His tenure as HFA director of Europe lasted from 2007 to 2016.
Reflecting on his long-standing relationship with HFA, Muench said, “I have always cherished my time with HFA and take immense pride in not only attending 50 HFA events but also in helping bring thousands of Europeans to experience these gatherings firsthand through group study trips. Witnessing the industry evolve, forging lasting connections, and contributing to the international exchange of ideas has been incredibly rewarding. HFA has been more than an organization to me—it’s been like a family and a driving force in uniting fitness professionals across borders and shaping the industry’s growth.”
Muench has contributed articles on The HFA Show and the HFA European Congress to various trade publications and has spoken at industry events, including moderating the international franchise panel at last year’s Congress in Barcelona.
