Aussie PR queen Roxy Jacenko has revealed she overdosed on the weight-loss drug Ozempic and spent three days in a hospital drug unit. The 45-year-old mother of two told The Daily Telegraph she injected four times the prescribed dose and nearly died from the effects.
“I have never ever felt so violently ill,” Jacenko said. She recalled lying in bed while her husband Oli kept giving her jelly beans as she felt she was going to die. She said she couldn’t even wait for an ambulance.
Jacenko admitted taking the drug when it was still new and warned others not to repeat her mistake. “The drug overdose unit for three days is not a pretty place to be,” she said.
Ozempic contains semaglutide and was originally made to help type 2 diabetes patients control blood sugar. Recently, doctors have also prescribed it for weight loss, which led to shortages affecting diabetic patients.
To address this, Wegovy, a similar drug with the same active ingredient, was introduced and approved for long-term weight management by Australia’s TGA.
After her Ozempic ordeal, Jacenko lost 18 kilograms by following a strict diet and fasting after 6:30 p.m.
