Coral Springs, FL – A new community running club is gaining momentum in Coral Springs, offering residents a fun, inclusive way to improve their fitness without the cost of a gym membership.
The Coral “Sprints” Run Club meets every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. outside BurgerFi at The Walk plaza on University Drive. Founded by local resident Juan Charrias, the club aims to unite people of all fitness levels and promote a healthy, active lifestyle in a welcoming environment.
Charrias started the group after moving to Coral Springs in April and noticing a gap in the city’s fitness community.
“I was looking for a way to be more active and healthier, without risking injuries,” said Charrias. “Running with a group in Fort Lauderdale helped spark that passion for me. When I came here, I didn’t find anything as organized, so I decided to start one myself.”
Inspired by his time in a Fort Lauderdale run club, Charrias wanted to create a safe, family-friendly space where Coral Springs residents could come together. Safety was a top priority when selecting routes, he explained, with efforts made to ensure both runners and walkers would feel secure.
“In other cities, run clubs are everywhere. I wanted to put Coral Springs on the map,” he said.
The Coral “Sprints” Run Club is free to join and open to everyone—including walkers, joggers, and those pushing strollers. Charrias emphasized that the group is not competitive and welcomes people at every stage of their fitness journey.
“I used to bring my daughter in a stroller 75% of the time,” he said. “Some people are training for races, others just want to move. Everybody runs their own run.”
To ensure no one feels left behind, the club uses a team of five pacers, including Charrias himself. These pacers help guide participants, answer questions, and offer encouragement during the runs.
“Whether you’re a fast runner or a beginner walker, there’s someone there to support you,” he said.
The club also provides free water, fosters a positive atmosphere, and encourages residents to get involved without pressure.
“We all have busy lives,” said Charrias. “This isn’t about competition—it’s about community. We just want to share the love we’ve found in running, because it’s truly contagious.”
The next run is scheduled for Thursday, June 5, at 6:30 p.m., featuring a two-mile course starting from The Walk.
