On Thursday, fitness coach and vlogger Rendon Labador launched a fitness program at the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters in Camp Crame. The program is aimed at helping police officers meet the physical fitness standards emphasized by PNP Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III.
Labador, whose father is a retired police officer, was invited by the Police Community Affairs and Development Group (PCADG) to lead the 90-day initiative. PCADG Director Brig. Gen. Marvin Joe Saro mentioned that the collaboration started with a casual meeting, which unexpectedly generated a lot of interest. “He visited us here—just a cordial meeting. Then, we said, ‘Let’s go.’ We didn’t expect it would generate this kind of hype,” said Saro. He also added that there was no financial arrangement for the program, which was originally intended to be low-key.
Saro acknowledged that while he could not provide an exact figure, most of the police officers are physically fit, with only a few being overweight.
Labador’s fitness program is different from traditional routines like Zumba or Tae Bo. Instead, it focuses on a 93-day motivated functional workout and nutrition plan. “Call me the ‘National Coach of the Police.’ I’m doing this for free. I volunteered to help,” Labador told reporters.
Around 150 police officers initially signed up for the program. Labador emphasized that the program would be structured, with all officers working together and results closely monitored. He advised, “The quickest way to lose belly fat is for all of our police officers to cut down on rice.”
