Brazilian singer Ana Bárbara Buhr Buldrini has died after suffering cardiac arrest following multiple cosmetic surgeries at a private clinic in Istanbul, Turkey. She was 31.
Buldrini, who had traveled from Mozambique with her husband, artist Elgar Miles, underwent a breast augmentation, liposuction, and rhinoplasty at Tusa Hospital. According to Miles, the procedures were part of a promotional agreement with the clinic, which she planned to endorse in return for the treatments.
The couple had reportedly gone out drinking with the surgeon the night before the operation. Miles told Brazilian media that the surgery, originally scheduled for later in the week, was brought forward to Sunday due to scheduling conflicts. He said they had requested a delay to allow more time for recovery after their night out, but the doctor insisted it would be safe to proceed.
Buldrini entered surgery on Sunday and was out of the operating room by 11 p.m. Miles was shown a recovery photo of his wife and told she was still under anesthesia. However, he became concerned when clinic staff began acting unusually and asked him to wait for over an hour. Eventually, he was informed by doctors that her heart was failing, and shortly afterward, that she had died.
Hospital staff reportedly tried for 90 minutes to resuscitate her. In a statement, Tusa Hospital denied any wrongdoing and claimed their medical team had followed all protocols in an effort to save her life.
Buldrini, originally from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, had recently married Miles on May 3 in Maputo, Mozambique, where they were living. The pair met six years ago in Rome, when she was working at a tattoo studio near his recording studio.
“She wanted the surgery—it was her dream,” said Miles, who expressed his grief and called for justice. “The industry needs to take more responsibility. I just want this case to be a warning to others.”
Turkish authorities reportedly detained medical staff at the clinic for questioning and later released them. The investigation is ongoing.
In a tribute posted on Instagram, Miles shared his heartbreak, writing, “Our last few days were too beautiful to end this tragically. I promised to protect and love you. Nothing makes sense without you.”
