Caroline Idiens, better known online as Caroline’s Circuits, has become a leading figure in promoting fitness for women in midlife. The 52-year-old trainer has turned circuit training into something approachable and enjoyable, especially for women in their fifties. With over two million followers, she has shown that simple, functional exercises can transform strength, health, and confidence.
Idiens began her journey during the Covid lockdown, offering online classes to 40 friends and clients in Berkshire. Her workouts, filmed in her living room, quickly gained attention. Unlike traditional fitness influencers, she brings a relatable style. She exercises alongside her audience, often joined by her dog, and speaks honestly about the challenges of each session. This down-to-earth approach has resonated with thousands who now join her live sessions.
Her focus is on helping women fit exercise into busy lives without overhauling everything. She encourages small steps—ten minutes before work, walking at lunch, taking the stairs, and another ten minutes in the evening. According to Idiens, consistency matters most, and all movement counts. She highlights strength training for its many benefits, including improving posture, balance, flexibility, coordination, and bone health. She points out that lifting weights can boost bone density, with some clients reporting better bone scan results after following her routines.
Idiens has also addressed old myths about women and strength training. When she started in the early 2000s, many believed lifting weights would make women bulky. She has helped shift this mindset, showing that strength training is about functional fitness—building the muscle needed for daily tasks, like reaching high shelves or getting out of a car. Her sessions often target the core, glutes, back, and arms, focusing on areas that help reduce back pain and improve everyday strength. She recalls one client who felt confident enough to wear a sleeveless dress for the first time in 15 years after following her workouts.
Her message is further shared through her new book, *Fit At 50: Your Guide To A Stronger, Fitter & Happier (Mid)life In Just 6 Weeks*. The book combines fitness, sleep, mindset, and nutrition. Idiens worked with a menopause-focused dietitian to develop simple, balanced recipes that support exercise and manage common challenges like weight gain around the middle. She emphasizes moderation over restriction and highlights the importance of fuelling the body to exercise effectively.
Idiens believes that age should not be a barrier to starting strength training. She says people can feel the difference in two weeks, see it in four, and make it a habit in six. With women of all ages in her classes, she encourages everyone to start now for long-term benefits.
