Tv Chef Shares Secret To Major Weight Loss And New Life

by Daisy

TV chef Rosemary Shrager has shared the secret behind her remarkable weight loss of over three stone. At her heaviest, the 74-year-old, known for her appearances on This Morning, weighed 20 stone. She attributed her previous weight gain to years of disliking exercise and consistently eating large portions.

Shrager is now four dress sizes smaller and says she feels like she has been given a “second chance at life” after changing her diet and fitness routine late last year. Currently, she is participating in an 18-day, 450-mile charity bike challenge to raise money for the Hendy Foundation’s food banks initiative.

Her weight loss strategy includes eating just two meals a day, regular cycling, working with a personal trainer, and using the medication Ozempic. Shrager told MailOnline that after a lifetime of avoiding exercise and struggling with weight, she is now enjoying both the physical and emotional benefits of prioritizing her health.

“After nine months of training, I am more than three stone lighter and four dress sizes smaller,” she said. “While I credit perseverance, my personal trainer, and cycling partner, Ozempic has also played a key role in my success.”

Shrager’s motivation extends beyond losing weight; she wants to build longevity. After undergoing a hip replacement in 2023, she described her lifestyle as “incredibly lazy” and said she was so unfit she couldn’t even walk around her kitchen without holding on to the counter. Although she lives in a scenic area near Kent and East Sussex, she avoided walking in her village for fear of not making it back.

Despite eating relatively healthy meals, Shrager said her portions were “excessive,” and reaching 20 stone made her “deeply worried” about her health. She has struggled with weight her entire life and was diagnosed with a low metabolism as a child. Negative experiences with exercise began in school, where she was required to attend private fitness sessions, leaving her with an aversion to physical activity.

Shrager, mother to Tom, 52, and Kate, 50, also revealed she developed bulimia in her early 30s in a desperate attempt to lose weight from a size 16. After about ten years, she overcame the disorder by checking into a recovery center.

She briefly lost 2 stone 3 pounds during her 12 days on the reality show I’m A Celebrity in 2012 but regained the weight afterward. A diagnosis of type 2 diabetes in 2018 prompted another weight loss attempt, but she found that previous efforts were not sustainable.

Last autumn, she started using Ozempic and committed to the Two Wheels For Meals cycling challenge. Shrager also began training three times a week with a personal trainer. Nine months later, she can cycle up to 42 miles a day, often cycling for four to five hours.

She stressed the importance of finding a sport you enjoy, saying cycling was key to her fitness success. Since changing her lifestyle, she has seen significant health improvements. Her doctor recently told her that her blood sugar levels, blood pressure, cholesterol, and kidney function have all improved.

Shrager plans to stop Ozempic within a year and hopes to reverse her diabetes entirely. While she praised weight loss injections, she emphasized in a recent Good Morning Britain interview that exercise played the biggest role in her transformation.

“It’s all exercise,” she said. “Getting out there, enjoying the fresh air, it’s great for your mental health.”
