Mayan Lopez Talks Cosmetic Surgery After Losing 100 Pounds

by Daisy

Mayan Lopez has openly shared that she recently underwent cosmetic surgery after losing over 100 pounds, emphasizing that the decision was made for her own happiness. In an Instagram story on May 25, she explained that she had struggled with loose skin following her significant weight loss.

Lopez, daughter of comedian George Lopez, credited a combination of exercise and the medication Ozempic for her weight loss. She revealed that she used the GLP-1 drug partly because she has polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a hormonal disorder that can cause symptoms such as irregular periods, excessive facial hair, obesity, and infertility. According to the Cleveland Clinic, PCOS affects up to 15% of women.

Describing her surgery in a series of videos, Lopez said she had a breast lift and tummy tuck, which involved removing excess skin and tightening muscles. The American Board of Cosmetic Surgery lists these procedures under skin removal surgery, which can include breast lifts, neck contouring, and more extensive body lifts.

Lopez also talked about her weight history, admitting it has fluctuated over the years. “I’ve lost 30, gained 20,” she said. “I probably honestly lost and gained over 300 pounds in my lifetime, which my body showed.”

Despite being happy with her body now, Lopez admitted that loose skin sometimes made her feel uncomfortable. “I did have loose skin and the girls were not where I wanted them to be,” she said.

She also noted that health insurance often does not cover loose skin surgery, which can be a barrier for many. Lopez said she paid for the procedures herself. “I am very grateful that I have been able to pay for the surgery myself,” she said, adding that she has “cried with joy.”

As co-creator and writer of the recently canceled NBC sitcom “Lopez vs. Lopez,” which drew inspiration from her relationship with her father, Lopez said she wanted to be honest about her body and recovery. “I put my life out there on screen,” she said. “We can talk about it. That’s how I want my platform to be going forward. I already talk about women’s health, and this is part of that.”

Lopez believes the surgery will help her feel more comfortable in her own body. “I’m never going to be a size 0. I love my curves. I don’t want to get rid of my curves. This wasn’t meant to get rid of my curves,” she said. “This surgery was definitely more for me, and if it helps me out in my job and … Hollywood then sure. But I’m going to be my own standard.”
