Priority Health, a nonprofit health plan serving 1.3 million members, has announced a partnership with Virta Health to provide employers with support for weight management and diabetes care.
Virta Health, based in Denver, Colorado, is a digital health company that offers personalized nutrition support and medication management when needed. Their care plans are tailored to each patient’s medical history, personal goals, and risk factors, creating a customized approach to treatment.
Through this new partnership, Priority Health’s employer clients will have access to three different solutions from Virta Health, depending on their needs and budgets. These include a program focused on sustainable weight loss through nutrition therapy, a program that adds GLP-1 medication prescribed by Virta clinicians alongside nutrition and lifestyle support, and a diabetes reversal program designed to help members achieve remission of type 2 diabetes through nutrition therapy. Self-funded employer clients can access all three programs, while fully-funded clients are offered the first two options.
Alicia Coronas, vice president of employer solutions product and marketing at Priority Health, said the company chose Virta Health because of its leadership in addressing chronic metabolic conditions. She noted that Virta’s personalized nutrition plans, behavioral support, and medication supervision fit well with Priority Health’s commitment to improving the well-being and empowerment of its members.
The need for such support is significant. Data from the American Diabetes Association shows that in 2021, 38.4 million Americans, or 11.6% of the population, had diabetes. Furthermore, the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases reports that nearly one in three adults are overweight, and two in five adults have obesity.
