Mayan Lopez recently opened up about undergoing cosmetic surgery after losing over 100 pounds. She shared that the procedure was a personal choice to help her feel happier and more comfortable in her body.
In an Instagram story on May 25, Lopez explained that she had loose skin due to her significant weight loss. She lost weight through a combination of exercise and the medication Ozempic, which she took partly because she has polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). PCOS is a hormonal disorder affecting many women and can cause symptoms like obesity and irregular periods.
Lopez underwent a breast lift and tummy tuck, surgeries that remove loose skin and tighten muscles. She noted that her weight has fluctuated a lot over the years, sometimes gaining and losing large amounts, which affected her body’s appearance.
She said she feels happy with her body now but that excess skin made her uncomfortable at times. Lopez paid for the surgery herself since health insurance often does not cover skin removal procedures.
As co-creator of the NBC sitcom “Lopez vs. Lopez,” which was inspired by her relationship with her father, George Lopez, she wants to be open about her body and recovery. She said she hopes this honesty will help others and become part of her platform focusing on women’s health.
Lopez emphasized that the surgery was for her own comfort and confidence, not to change her natural curves. She said she will always embrace her body on her own terms, aiming to be her own standard rather than conforming to outside expectations.
