As India faces a growing health challenge from both undernutrition and rising obesity, UNICEF India has launched a new digital campaign titled #MeriThaliSehatwali (My Plate is a Healthy Plate). The nationwide initiative aims to encourage healthier eating habits and informed food choices among individuals and families of all ages.
In response to the widespread use of social media, UNICEF has chosen a digital-first strategy to reach people across the country. The campaign uses a mix of engaging formats, including videos, images, and catchy jingles, to grab attention and promote long-term changes in dietary behavior.
The core goal of the campaign is to raise awareness about the importance of balanced and nutritious meals at every stage of life. It urges Indian families to rethink their daily meals using locally available ingredients that are rich in essential nutrients.
“Our food choices are fundamental to our growth and well-being throughout life. A healthy diet helps children and youth thrive,” said Cynthia McCaffrey, UNICEF India Representative. “But many people don’t know what a nutritious meal should look like, especially for different age groups. This campaign aims to close that knowledge gap.”
Different stages of life have different nutritional needs — from toddlers and teenagers to pregnant women and older adults. #MeriThaliSehatwali offers clear, science-based guidance tailored to each age group, helping families make practical and healthy food decisions in their everyday lives.
