Andy Richter Says Insurance Won’t Cover Expensive Weight Loss Medications

by Daisy

Comedian Andy Richter says he would try weight-loss medications if they weren’t so expensive.

On his podcast The Three Questions, Richter spoke with Modern Family’s Eric Stonestreet about GLP-1 injections. These drugs, including Ozempic and Mounjaro, are FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes but are also used as weight-loss aids.

Richter, 58, said he has looked into using these drugs. Though he is not diabetic, he has weight to lose and suffers from sleep apnea, which can be linked to excess weight.

He added that the main barrier is cost. His insurance does not cover the medications, which can cost between \$1,000 and \$2,000 per month without coverage.

Richter called the price “cost-prohibitive” and said that is why he has not started the treatment.
