Brew Crew Run Club Brings New Nightclub Fitness Trend To Haslam Park

by Daisy

A new run club has launched at Haslam Park, bringing the popular ‘run club is the new nightclub’ trend to Ashton-on-Ribble.

Lorah Cheyne from Fulwood started the Brew Crew Run Club after responding to a call for volunteers from the local coffee shop of the same name.

“I had recently started running again when I saw Brew Crew’s post asking for someone to lead a run club,” Lorah said. “I’ve really been enjoying running, so I thought it would be a great way to keep it up and bring people together.”

Although this is her first time leading a run club, Lorah is no stranger to group fitness. “I attend Unit 4 in Preston, and the community there means a lot to me and my friends. I wanted to bring that same energy to running.”

Outside of Brew Crew Run Club, Lorah runs near her home in Fulwood and at Moor Park. She often combines gym sessions with runs around Avenham Park followed by coffee in town.

“I’m quite social, so I thought this run club would be a good way to bring more people together,” she added. “Pairing the run with coffee and cake afterwards makes it even better.”

Lorah emphasized that Brew Crew Run Club focuses on low-pressure participation and social connection.

“Fitness is a great way to meet new people. On days when you don’t feel motivated, having like-minded people around helps push you,” she said. “There’s no pressure—go slow if you want, or faster if you prefer. For me, it’s about getting people moving.”

She was surprised by the turnout at the first run. “A few people from my gym came, my sisters joined even though they don’t usually run, and others saw it on Facebook or Instagram. It was really nice.”

Encouraged by the response, Lorah has launched an Instagram page to keep followers updated.

“I’ll post updates and ask what people want to keep things interesting. I might add some intervals along the tree-lined avenue but will keep the distance short for now to stay accessible.”

“If anyone is interested, even if you’re nervous, just come along. Even if you only do one lap and join for coffee after, that’s perfectly fine. It’s about showing up, meeting people, and supporting a local business,” she said.

The next Brew Crew Run Club meets on Sunday, May 18, at Brew Crew (accessed from Bristow Avenue). The group gathers at 9:45 a.m. for a 10 a.m. start. After the 5km run, participants return to Brew Crew for coffee and cake.
