Robin Roberts shared a deeply personal memory on *Good Morning America* this week, reflecting on a gift that brought her comfort during her health battle. The longtime TV host spoke about a moment she will always treasure—receiving a handwritten set of lyrics from the late Brian Wilson, co-founder of the Beach Boys, who died on June 11, 2025.
Roberts became emotional as she told her co-hosts about the special gesture. During her recovery from a bone marrow transplant, Wilson sent her the sheet music for the Beach Boys’ iconic song *God Only Knows*, complete with his handwritten lyrics.
“Brian was such a kind person,” she said. “In my home, I have the handwritten lyrics to *God Only Knows* that he wrote out for me when I was going through my journey, coming back from my bone marrow transplant.”
Roberts, who underwent the procedure in 2012 to treat myelodysplastic syndrome—a rare blood disorder—spoke about how much the gift meant to her. “For him to take the time, and for those words and those lyrics, and to see how he signed it, means so much,” she said. Her co-hosts, Lara Spencer and George Stephanopoulos, called it “so meaningful,” to which Roberts replied, “That’s Brian Wilson. We are thinking of his daughters and all who he held close to his heart.”
Roberts later showed the framed lyrics in her home in a video posted on social media, saying, “I will treasure it always, as I will the memory of Brian Wilson. God bless.” She captioned the video: “Brian Wilson was such a special soul. He gave me this incredible gift that I have framed in my home. Sending my prayers and condolences to his family,” adding prayer hands and heart emojis.
Five years after her transplant, Roberts told viewers she felt like she had been given a new start. “I am thriving, healthy, strong, and eternally grateful for life,” she said on the show. “It’s considered to be a rebirth, and I definitely felt that I was getting another chance at life.”
Roberts’ reflection comes as fans and loved ones remember Wilson’s impact, both through his music and his kindness.
