Takanobu Sato, better known by his sumo name “Takakeisho,” has shocked fans with a dramatic transformation, revealing he lost over 100 pounds just months after retiring from professional sumo wrestling.
The former champion, who stood out in Japan’s top division , was known for his explosive style and power. During his decade-long career, he won four Grand Sumo championships and held the elite rank of Ozeki for five years—a title just below the highest rank of Yokozuna.
However, Takakeisho’s career was marred by injuries. He withdrew early from 10 of his last 30 tournaments and struggled to stay competitive at a weight between 350 and 410 pounds. The physical toll eventually forced him to retire in September at just 28 years old.
Since stepping away from the ring, Takakeisho has made his health a top priority. In less than a year, he says he has shed over 100 pounds—a transformation that has drawn attention far beyond the sumo world.
Though the details of his diet and exercise plan are still unclear, his new appearance has gone viral online. Fans and fitness experts alike are praising his progress and commitment to better health.
Takakeisho’s story is the latest in a growing trend of sumo wrestlers choosing wellness after retirement. Many face serious health risks after years of maintaining extreme weight for competition. His dramatic transformation serves as both a personal comeback and an inspiration for others in and outside the sport.
