A mother has shared her simple method to lose nearly two-and-a-half stone using intermittent fasting. Her approach includes two main options.
One method involves choosing two days a week to eat just 500 calories for women or 600 for men, while eating normally on other days (2,000 calories for women, 2,500 for men). The other popular method is the 16:8 fast, which means fasting for 16 hours with only water, black coffee, or plain tea allowed, followed by an 8-hour eating window.
Experts like Dr. Frank Hu from Harvard highlight the ease of the 16:8 plan, noting that fasting is easier since much of it happens during sleep. He explains that 16 hours without food can push the body into ketosis, where it burns fat for energy instead of glucose.
Research shows intermittent fasting, especially the 16:8 method, can be effective for weight loss and may improve health by reducing obesity and enhancing gut health. However, long-term effects still need more study, and weight loss might slow after six months as the body adapts.
Intermittent fasting is not suitable for everyone, including young people, the elderly, those on certain medications, or people with eating disorders.
Celebrities like TV presenter Davina McCall endorse the approach. She told Women’s Health UK that setting a clear end to her eating day reduced her snacking and improved how she felt.
The Simple app, which supports intermittent fasting, has helped many users lose weight. One user, Debi, went from size 20 to 12 and feels fantastic. Another, Laci Gilbert, a mother of two, lost 115 pounds using the app’s food tracking and home workouts.
Laci said the app changed her life, giving her motivation to stay active despite a busy schedule. The app works on Apple and Android and creates personalized plans based on a user’s lifestyle and goals.
