A new study reveals that women over 55 are leading weight loss success in the UK, outperforming younger men. The research, based on nearly 60,000 users of prescription weight loss drugs like Wegovy and Mounjaro, shows that age and gender impact results in unexpected ways.
Researchers from Voy and Imperial College London found that patients using digital tools such as weight tracking and coaching lost 53% more weight than those relying on medication alone. Women in their late fifties and older logged their weight six times a month on average—twice as often as men aged 18 to 24. They also attended an average of five coaching sessions per program, compared to fewer than one session for younger men. This higher engagement helped boost their results.
The study highlights that long-term behavior change plays a key role in weight loss. Voy’s medically guided program combines prescription drugs with coaching and habit support, which appears to drive better outcomes. Other providers like Numan and Juniper offer similar medications but focus less on coaching and behavior change.
Voy’s data suggests that combining medication with consistent digital support is crucial for sustainable weight loss. With the right tools and habits, older women are currently leading the way in successful weight management.
