At 50, actress Sonali Kulkarni shares her fitness secrets and warns against weight loss drugs common in Bollywood. She stays healthy through mindful eating, daily exercise, and biking, which she calls essential for her physical and mental well-being.
Kulkarni acknowledges the pressure in the film industry to maintain a lean frame but refuses to sacrifice her health to be thin. In an interview with HT Health Shots, she said, “I am unique. My size is my size. I don’t want to be thin at the cost of my health.”
She revealed that many in Bollywood struggle with eating disorders like bulimia and use weight loss drugs to keep their on-screen image. Kulkarni worries about how these practices affect people’s behavior and relationships. She noted some become agitated or mistreat those around them and lose touch with their real lives.
“The brunt is always borne by your family,” she said, urging people to avoid weight loss drugs unless prescribed by a doctor.
The National Award-winning actress, who works in both Hindi and Marathi films, says she is in a happy place. She focuses on meaningful projects, supports social causes, prioritizes fitness, and enjoys time with her husband and daughter. “I want to realise what I have,” she added, “and value it rather than chase what I don’t.”
