Chrissy Metz, known for her role on This Is Us, recently revealed a 100-pound weight loss while attending Variety’s Power of Women event in Nashville. The 44-year-old actress wore a colorful dress paired with white cowboy boots, showing off her transformation on the red carpet.
Metz has spoken openly about the mental, physical, and emotional abuse she endured from her stepfather as a child. She shared that he would weigh her in the kitchen and threaten to lock the cupboards.
Fans praised her appearance online. One said, “Happy for her!! She looks beautiful!” while another added, “Good for her! She’s beautiful no matter what her size!” Some noted the difficulty of losing weight, encouraging a slow and steady approach.
In an April interview with the Daily Mail, Metz promoted her children’s book When I Talk to God, I Talk About Feelings. She said she avoids running unless necessary and shared her view on weight-loss drug Ozempic, calling its use a personal choice as long as it doesn’t harm anyone.
Metz also revealed that her NBC contract for This Is Us included a clause requiring her to lose weight to follow her character’s storyline. She said having this motivation helped her focus on improving her health, adding that people often push harder when they do it for others.
Experts say celebrities like Metz can influence public views on body image. Dr. Patrick Wanis, a behavioral expert, told Bored Panda that celebrities can either reinforce unhealthy ideals or promote authenticity. Showing real body features like stretch marks and weight changes on social media helps normalize different body types, he said.
