The United States Grain Council (USGC) recently celebrated a significant milestone with the first-ever shipment of corn fermented protein (CFP) certified under its Corn Sustainability Assurance Protocol (CSAP) arriving in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
CFP, a valuable byproduct of ethanol production, is known for its high protein content and digestibility. It is increasingly sought after in the growing aquaculture and poultry feed industries. The arrival of CFP in the UAE highlights a rising demand in the region for renewable and high-quality feed solutions.
Ramy H. Taieb, the USGC’s regional director for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, emphasized that this achievement reflects the Council’s ongoing efforts to strengthen global partnerships and promote sustainable agricultural practices. The CSAP certification ensures that the corn used in the production of CFP adheres to strict environmental, social, and economic sustainability standards.
“By aligning with CSAP standards, the shipment supports global sustainability objectives, including traceability, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and responsible land use,” Taieb stated. “It also aligns with the UAE’s strategic focus on enhancing food security and advancing renewable agriculture.”
The US Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) notes that the growing demand for corn in the UAE is driven by the expanding livestock sector, particularly poultry. Most corn imported into the country is used in poultry feed. UAE feed manufacturers typically adjust the mix of ingredients based on factors such as the age and breed of the birds and local market demands.
The shipment follows a commercial partnership established during the USGC’s Export Exchange event in Austin, Texas, in October, as well as a Corn Quality Rollout event in Istanbul, Turkey, in January. The events aimed to promote US corn and value-added co-products, including CFP and distiller’s dried grains with solubles (DDGS), while connecting international buyers with US suppliers in the growing sustainable feed market.
With a presence in 28 locations worldwide, the USGC supports export markets for US barley, corn, sorghum, and related products across more than 50 countries, including the European Union.
