Phil Foden could be set for a return to Manchester City’s matchday squad this weekend as concerns over his recent injury appear to be easing.
The 23-year-old midfielder, who has faced one of his most challenging seasons since joining City’s first team in 2017, was forced off during the second half of a goalless draw against Manchester United two weeks ago. Foden, visibly limping, was replaced by Jeremy Doku and missed City’s subsequent 5-2 win over Crystal Palace.
His absence raised fears of a serious setback during a key stage of the campaign. However, Manchester Evening News reporter Simon Bajkowski has since reported that the issue is not believed to be serious, and Foden may return as early as Saturday, when City face Everton at Goodison Park.
Despite not being seen in training photos shared by the club on Tuesday, optimism remains that the England international is progressing in his recovery. Fans may have to wait until manager Pep Guardiola’s pre-match press conference on Friday for confirmation of Foden’s fitness and potential involvement.
City travel to Merseyside for a traditional 3 p.m. kickoff in what could be a vital fixture in their title pursuit.
