In a momentous achievement, The Gym Group’s South Shields branch has emerged victorious as the ‘Gym of the Year’ at a distinguished event held in London, surpassing competition from over 200 other gyms.
The elated staff at the South Shields gym received the prestigious accolade, standing out among the 238 Gym Group branches nationwide. The gym’s success was attributed to a myriad of factors, notably its community engagement initiatives, including charitable activities supporting Breast Cancer awareness and food banks.
The gym’s commitment to giving back to the community, coupled with its outstanding performance in fundraising events, played a pivotal role in securing the coveted title. Notably, the establishment garnered praise for its high levels of customer satisfaction, the impeccable cleanliness of its facilities, and the amiable nature of its staff, contributing to overall team satisfaction.
Offering a range of state-of-the-art equipment and diverse classes tailored to members’ needs, the South Shields Gym Group has positioned itself as a fitness hub of choice. Simone Liscombe, the Manager of the South Shields branch, expressed her surprise at the win, stating, “We didn’t actually know we were nominated for the award until it came up on the screen with five gyms, and ours was one of them.”
The joyous moment was recounted by Liscombe, who shared, “When the CEO was describing the gym that had won the award, it sounded a lot like us. Then, when they announced South Shields, we jumped up and down; we were so excited.”
Recognizing the commendable efforts of the team, key contributors to the award-winning success include Kevin O’Neill (Assistant General Manager), Simone Liscombe (General Manager), Carl Robe, Eve Gatens, Keegan Wilson, James Hewitt, Ryan Smeatham, and Beth Nicholson.
In addition to its commitment to excellence in fitness, the gym prides itself on inclusivity within the community. The South Shields Gym Group is currently appealing to the public to participate in its annual Hope4Kidz Christmas toy drive. Actively involved in this campaign for several years, the gym encourages members of the public to donate new toys and books, ensuring vulnerable children receive meaningful gifts during the festive season.
