by Daisy

The American Society for Nutrition (ASN) has announced Dr. Naïma Moustaïd-Moussa as its President for the 2025–2026 term, effective June 18, 2025. She takes over from Dr. Sarah L. Booth, who now serves as Past President on the Board of Directors. The Society also introduced new board members as part of the leadership transition.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Moustaïd-Moussa as the 2025–2026 ASN President,” said Dr. John Courtney, ASN’s Chief Executive Officer. “Her proven leadership and passion for nutrition will help drive innovation and meaningful progress for both our society and the field.”

A native of Morocco, Dr. Moustaïd-Moussa earned her PhD from the University of Paris and completed postdoctoral training at the Harvard School of Public Health. She began her academic career at the University of Tennessee in 1993 and became a full professor in 2003. During her time there, she held roles across several departments, including Nutrition, Animal Science, and Family & Consumer Sciences. She also served as co-director of the UT Obesity Research Center.

In 2012, she joined Texas Tech University (TTU) as a Senior Strategic Hire in Nutrition and Obesity. A year later, she founded the Obesity Research Cluster, which grew into the Obesity Research Institute (ORI), officially recognized by the TTU System Board of Regents in 2019. In 2024, she was appointed as the inaugural Executive Director of the Institute for One Health Innovation, a joint initiative between TTU and the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. She currently holds the title of Horn Distinguished Professor in Nutritional Sciences and will move her academic and research work to TTU’s School of Veterinary Medicine in fall 2025.

“I am very humbled and deeply honored to serve as ASN president at such an important time for nutrition science, as our field plays an increasingly critical role in shaping global health,” Dr. Moustaïd-Moussa said. “I look forward to inclusively guiding our community forward and building on the incredible progress led by Sarah Booth. Her leadership has strengthened our Society and its partnerships with federal and private agencies, and I look forward to continuing that momentum in collaboration with our dedicated members.”

Speaking earlier this month at the Society’s annual NUTRITION 2025 meeting in Orlando, Dr. Moustaïd-Moussa shared her vision for the coming year. Her priorities include expanding ASN’s global partnerships, promoting transdisciplinary collaboration through the One Health framework, organizing regional workshops on core nutrition topics, and strengthening ASN’s leadership in policy, education, and advocacy.

These goals align with ASN’s strategic plan leading up to its centennial in 2028 and aim to further its mission to advance nutrition science, education, and practice worldwide.
