Social media influencers on TikTok and Instagram are promoting okra water as a health booster. The drink is made by soaking raw okra pods in water overnight. Fans say it can help control blood sugar, improve digestion, and aid weight loss.
However, Dr. Masarat Jilani, a physician with health firm Jude, has criticized this trend. She said relying on okra water alone for weight loss is “a waste of time.” Dr. Jilani warned that people might skip proven methods and choose quick TikTok trends instead.
She added that while okra water is not harmful, expecting major health benefits is unrealistic. Staying hydrated helps digestion and metabolism, and drinking okra water might encourage more fluid intake. But the okra itself adds little, mainly just a unique taste, reports The Mirror.
