The head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, condemned the attack on Nasser Hospital in Gaza, calling it “a huge blow to the already overwhelmed health system.” He emphasized that attacks on healthcare facilities must be prevented.
Tedros reported on X that the attack resulted in two deaths and 12 injuries, one of whom is in critical condition and undergoing multiple surgeries. The strike severely damaged hospital infrastructure, including the burn unit, 18 beds in the surgical department, 8 beds in the intensive care unit, and 10 inpatient beds.
“The attacks on hospitals must stop,” Tedros insisted, reiterating the WHO’s stance. He also called for an end to the blockade of aid into Gaza, which has been imposed by Israel . This blockade has hindered the delivery of essential supplies like food, medicine, and equipment, which are needed to support patients and rehabilitate hospitals.
More than 52,900 Palestinians, including many women and children, have been killed in the ongoing Israeli military offensive.
