Karan Johar Denies Ozempic Rumors: “I’ve Tried 1000 Diets, 500 Workouts”

Karan Johar’s recent weight loss transformation has sparked widespread speculation, with rumors suggesting the director-producer may have used weight loss drugs like Ozempic or Mounjaro. Addressing these claims, Johar has firmly denied using such medications and shared the real reasons behind his efforts to improve his health.

In a candid conversation with Raj Shamani, Johar explained, “I have tried thousands of diets and 500 different workouts—every type imaginable. I’ve been battling with these issues for years. After some blood tests, I discovered that I had thyroid issues, among other health concerns, which needed attention.” He expressed frustration over the constant speculation surrounding his weight loss. “People keep asking if I used Ozempic or Mounjaro. I’m tired of these rumors. People don’t know the truth, and frankly, I don’t feel the need to explain. It’s a complex, deeper story.”

However, Johar clarified that he would have openly admitted to using weight loss drugs if he had. “If I had used Ozempic, I would have said so. I’ve shared so much about my life already—I’m a single parent, I have two children, and I’ve written a book where I poured my heart out. So, why would I hide something like that? I would have even recommended it to others if I had taken it,” Johar stated. He added with a touch of humor, “Maybe I could even be a brand ambassador for it!”

Despite the ongoing speculation, Johar emphasized that he feels healthier and more confident in his body than ever before. “At 52, I feel more confident and happy in my own skin than I ever have. I’m more focused on my inner happiness now.”

Johar also opened up about struggling with body dysmorphia. He recalled how he would feel ashamed of his body, especially when in public spaces like swimming pools or saunas. “I would rush to get into the pool to avoid anyone seeing me. Even now, though I’ve lost weight, I still feel uncomfortable in situations like that,” he admitted.

The turning point for Johar came after he underwent blood tests that revealed a thyroid imbalance. “I had been living with this issue for 15-20 years without realizing it. I was confused as to why my weight wouldn’t budge, no matter what I tried. When I finally got my blood work done, I realized I needed medication to address the thyroid problem.”

With his health concerns addressed, Johar turned to a strict diet and exercise regimen, including the OMAD (One Meal A Day) approach. “The first week was tough, but I stuck with it for about seven months. I ate just one meal a day, usually between 7:30 and 8:30 pm, avoiding lactose, gluten, and sugar,” he shared. He noted that while he still adheres to the no-gluten and no-sugar rules, he has recently added small amounts of rice and lactose to his diet to regain some weight. “I’m mildly lactose intolerant, so I drink almond milk without sugar. But now, I’ve started doing weight training and playing padel,” he added.

Dr. Rajiv Kovil, a diabetologist, explained that OMAD is a form of intermittent fasting that helps promote weight loss. “During the fasting period, the body burns stored fat for energy, a process called lipolysis. This shift in metabolism helps reduce appetite and promotes fat burning,” Dr. Kovil explained. He further noted that meals consumed during the eating window are typically high in protein, healthy fats, and complex carbs to ensure adequate nutrition.

Johar’s journey highlights his dedication to improving his health and well-being, and he remains open about his personal experiences, despite the ongoing speculation.
