Greater Midland Races has announced an exciting lineup of youth-focused events this summer, aimed at promoting fitness and fun for children across the region. The schedule includes four major races, offering kids of all ages opportunities to get active and enjoy the outdoors.

The season begins on Saturday, June 7, with the Greater Midland Dow RunWalk in downtown Midland. Youth ages 5 to 14 can join the 1 Mile Youth Run at 8:50 a.m., while the youngest participants (ages 3 to 5) can take part in the Tot Trot at 9:20 a.m. This short race includes medals and a treat from Dairy Queen for all finishers.

In July, the state’s largest youth triathlon—Tri-Kids-Try—returns to Midland on July 18–19. More than 350 young athletes, aged 6 to 15, are expected to compete in swimming, biking, and running events on Saturday. The festivities begin on Friday with the MINI TKT, designed specifically for children ages 3 to 5.

August kicks off with Run the River on August 1, held during Midland’s annual River Days Festival. The evening race offers 1 Mile and 5K options along the Chippewa Trail, accompanied by scenic views and family-friendly activities, including hot air balloon displays.

The final event of the youth racing calendar is the Loons Pennant Race on August 8 at Dow Diamond. Kids will start in the outfield and finish on the concourse. Each participant receives a complimentary ticket to the Great Lakes Loons baseball game that follows.

Runners looking for an extra challenge can take on the Triple 1 Mile Challenge by completing the 1 Mile events at Dow RunWalk, Run the River, and the Loons Pennant Race. Finishers earn exclusive custom swag. A 5K challenge option is also available for older or more experienced runners.

Greater Midland’s youth races offer a unique combination of fitness, fun, and community spirit, making this summer one to remember for young athletes and their families.
